John Bel Edwards Running for Governor in 2015


With Bobby Jindal looking toward the White House, it's already time to start thinking about who will replace him in Baton Rouge. One candidate already emerged from the field on Wendesday: State Rep. John Bel Edwards. The Amite Democrat made the announcement on this morning's edition of The Jim Engster Show, a radio show broadcast on Baton Rouge's WRKF. 

 

Edwards, 46, leads the House's Democratic Caucus, and was first elected in 2008. While not related to former Governor Edwin Edwards, John Bel Edwards is the son of longtime EWE ally and Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Frank Edwards Jr.

 

John Bel Edwards emerged as a Jindal critic in 2010 as he called out the gov for his frequent trips out-of-state. In 2012, John Bel Edwards emerged as a leading opponent of Jindal's education reform bills.
