Hurricane Isaac Knocking on Louisiana's Door At 4 p.m., the National Hurricane Center reported Hurricane Isaac is located 30 miles South of the mouth of the Mississippi River. Maximum winds were reported at 80 mph, and the storm was reportedly getting better organized as it headed toward the Louisiana coast. The storm slowed down to 8 mph, and is forecast to slow down even more once it hits land, pushing its expected ETA in New Orleans to 1 a.m. "Slight strengthening" is possible before Isaac makes landfall, according to a Center advisory. Hurricane force winds are pushing out 60 miles, mostly in the Northeast direction. The storm is expected to weaken as it moves onto land, but it is also expected to slow down, which could drench New Orleans with rainfall. The rain forecast remains 7-14 in. of rain, with isolated areas receiving as much as 20 inches.
This advisory makes a special note for anyone above the 30th floor of a high rise building. At that level, winds will be one Category level higher than on the ground, so it's probably not the best time to venture up a CBD building. |
