THE

Defender Picks

Hot Spots

Election season arrived along with football season. With registration over, the push for votes is in overdrive. All four candidates eying the mansion in Baton Rouge are pushing their cause through the miracles of modern video. NoDef has the highlights after the jump.

John Bel Edwards’ presence on the small tube is geared toward’s reinforcing his campaign’s message that the legislator is a “natural born leader.” The short advertisement focuses on Bel Edwards’ military bonafides and reminds viewers that the democrat supports gun rights and advocates education reform.

David Vitter’s strategy has been to avoid too many public appearances (for example, debates). However, Louisiana’s senior Senator has taken to the airwaves. His most recent spot takes on Common Core. In typical Vitter style, he attacks the program not for its standards, but because it represents another “dangerous” attempt by Washington to interfere in the lives of U.S. citizens.

Jay Dardenne does not have the archest of Vitter or Bel Edwards, but he does have the connections of his job as Lieutenant Governor, the state’s chief cultural ambassador. On Friday (9.11), Dardenne launched a long form internet video featuring testimonials from chefs, actors, and musicians like Zachary Richard, Cory Bahr, Jay Ducote, Chubby Carrier, Jo-El Sonnier, and Faith Ford.

The Friends of Scott Angelle have been nothing short of prolific with their cable spots. The organization has been airing radio and television pieces consistently since spring. The following commercial aims to illustrate Angelle’s appreciation for women voters (if not the issues pertinent to the demographic).

And, then there’s this attack ad. The Louisiana Water Coalition PAC’s 30 second spot comes out swinging about Diaper Dave’s history of sex scandals. The piece grabs all the low hanging fruit including Vitter’s prostitution incident and domestic violence allegations against a staffer.
