Hoop Schemes

The Pelicans will most likely not be making a trip to the playoffs this year. However, New Orleans hoops squad will be making a trip to China in the fall. On Tuesday (3.29) night, the NBA announced that the Pels and the Houston Rockets will face off in a pair of Asian exhibition matches.

As part of the NBA's Global Games China series, the squads will face off on October 9th in Shanghai and then again on October 12th in Beijing.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said in a statement, ”NBA fans in China are incredibly passionate and knowledgeable about the game of basketball. The China Games deliver the live, authentic NBA experience to our Chinese fans and provide our teams and players an opportunity to learn more about the Chinese people and culture.”

The trip will be a return for Houston who visited with their Chinese star Yao Ming in 2004, but the first for the Birds.

"I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to play in front of the Chinese fans for the first time in our franchise's history," the injured Anthony Davis said in a statement. "During my past visits to China, I was amazed to see the fans' love and excitement for the game of basketball. Visiting Beijing and Shanghai and interacting with the Chinese fans is going to be an incredible experience to share with my coaches and teammates."
