Honey Badger Kicked off LSU Football Team Tryann Mathieu Les Miles stepped to the podium with some nasty ass news today. The Honey Badger will no longer take what he wants in an LSU Tigers uniform. Tyrann Mathieu, a New Orleans native and Heisman Trophy finalist last season, was kicked off the team, Head Coach Les Miles announced at a press conference Friday. The All-American defensive back and punt return specialist was booted because of a violation of team policy. Miles did not specify which rules he broke.
Mathieu was no stranger to behavior issues. During the 2011 season, he was suspended for one game last season for a team policy violation that was rumored to be the use of synthetic marijuana. The team never confirmed the violation.
With his ability to make big plays, charismatic demeanor and nickname taken from a sassy YouTube video, Mathieu became the icon of the Tigers' undefeated run through the regular season last year. He also became a media star, inspiring T-shirts, a drink and whatever else fans could think up.
"I think he's a quality, quality guy. He had behavior issues, that's it," Miles said. "I think the overview of his time with us is positive."
A graduate of St. Aug, the 20-year-old was already being touted as a potential Heisman winner this year, and NFL prospect.
"It's hard because we all love Tyrann," Miles said. "We will do what we can as coaches, teammates, and friends to get him on a path where he can have success. We are going to miss him."
Miles said Mathieu will likely transfer to another school to play, since he has two years of college eligibility remaining. |
