Lakeview Lawn Larcenist Arrested

Police arrested a man Monday who is allegedly responsible for looting lawn equipment in Lakeview. According to officer Garry Flot, police spotted Kevin Alvis, 50, driving a car in New Orleans East that matched a stolen vehicle in a crime from June 9 on Louis XIV St.

Bike Easy Incident Map Tracks Traffic, Cycle Crimes

Bike Easy is always on the search for better ways to ride, and their updated incident map offers cyclists a crime map that NOPD does not yet provide. Recently extended to the Greater New Orleans Area, and equipped with user friendly search features, the map updates traffic incidents and bike thefts on a daily to weekly basis.

Lower Garden District Murder Suspect Sketched

A mysterious murder shook the Lower Garden District late last week. On Monday, police released a sketch of a suspect in the case. About 1 a.m. Friday, police responded to a call in the 2000 block of Pyrtania St. They found a 33-year-old man dead from a shot to the head, and the house ransacked.

Tropical Update: TD 2 Not Threatening NOLA

New Orleans is staying vigilant with an active hurricane season predicted by the NOAA, but the latest Tropical Depression to brew near the Gulf of Mexico does not appear to pose a threat. Tropical Depression 2 is currently forming off of the coast of Belize, and an advisory was issued this morning at 11am EDT, 10am CST.

UPDATED 5:15 PM

Atlanta sports talk radio hosts were suspended Monday after mocking Saints hero Steve Gleason and ALS. According to a post on TigerDroppings, hosts of 790 The Zone's Mayhem in the AM reportedly staged a call-in segment where a man pretended to be Gleason talking through his computerized voice. One of the hosts tried to apologize, but it wasn't enough.

The LSU Tigers baseball team played the underdog UCLA Bruins’ game Sunday night in Omaha and paid dearly for it. In suffering a 2-1 defeat , LSU (57-10) found itself in just the type of grinding pitchers’ duel that has become UCLA’s calling card this season.

Between Plessy Day and the Juneteenth observance, Dillard University is offering another opportunity for New Orleanians to reflect on racial disparities and inequality. Dillard presents Charles Fuller’s A Soldier’s Play, which won the 1982 Pulitzer Prize. Tomorrow, June 17, the staged dramatic reading will take place in 27 theaters, 12 states, and 17 cities throughout the country simultaneously, as well as in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. 

Man Murdered in Treme

A man was murdered near the corner of Orleans Ave. and Broad St. in Treme early Sunday morning, according to NOPD. About 2:45 a.m., police found the "unidentified male" near the intersection of St. Ann and Dorgenois Sts., according to officer Frank Robertson III.

After successfully sinking Senator McCain’s foreign catfish campaign, Senator Mary Landrieu aims to leave another piece of federal seafood regulation swimming with the fishes. Landrieu and her Republican colleague, Senator Roger Wicker of Mississippi, introduced an act to keep management authority of the Gulf Coast’s red snapper within the region, rather than with the feds.

Monday, June 17, fake shots will ring out on a movie set in the Bywater, and the Mayor’s Office of Cultural Economy issued a warning to urge neighbors to keep their handguns in their holsters.
