Hogs for the Cause Adds New Event in Charleston

Having perfected their New Orleans orignial, Hogs for the Cause is ready to branch out into Carolina style. The organizers who started the annual City Park barbecue cookoff are adding another event in Charleston, S.C. this fall. Dubbed Holy City Hogs, the Oct. 4 smokeout will be held at The Grove at Patriots Point.

About 6-8 pitmasters are expected to sign up to serve BBQ at the event. Alt-Country heroes, the Drive-By Truckers, have already been booked as the headlining act for the event, and organizers plan to add more music.

Hogs' South Carolina connection runs through co-founder and executive director Becker Hall, who is a graduate of the Charleston-based University of South Carolina.

Like the New Orleans event, the cookoff will be a fundraiser for pediatric brain cancer patients and their families.

The organization recently donated $25,000 toward a new pediatric oncology bone marrow transplant facility that will be included in Medical University of South Carolina's new Children's Hopsital.

“It is especially important to recognize that money raised at Holy City Hogs will benefit families in the Greater Charleston area and those seeking treatment at the Medical University of South Carolina," Hall said.

Hogs launched a website for the new event where more info will be posted in the future.
