Haute Heist: Cross-Dressing Crook Robs Gentilly Bank

A simple bandana just wouldn't do for the man who robbed a bank in Gentilly today. Just before noon, a desperado in drag wearing a curly wig and dark-colored tights handed a teller a note implying he was armed, and proceeded to rob Liberty Bank and Trust at 3002 Gentilly Blvd., according to the FBI. Authorities are not releasing the amount of money taken at this time, but they are releasing a full description of the robber's getup in hopes of tracking him down.

The thief is described as being approximately 5 ft. 9 in. tall, with a slim build. In addition to the locks and leggings, the man reportedly donned a wide-striped gold and white long-sleeve sweater, white sneakers and was carrying a tan purse. We're sorry to report that there aren't surveillance images at this time, as he would easily be up for best dressed criminal of the year. We'll be keeping one eye on the local bandit tracker to see if an image appears.

After leaving the bank, the man fled on foot across Elysian Fields and booked it east on St. Denis Street, authorities said.

Anyone with information about this bank robbery is asked to call the FBI at 504-816-3000.  The Metropolitan Orleans Bank Security Association (MOBSA) is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and indictment of this bank robber.
