FBI Ups Reward for Man Who Shot NOPD Officer to $30,000

The FBI is offering an additional $20,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the man who shot NOPD Officer John Passaro. This afternoon, Special Agent Michael J. Anderson, NOPD Superintendent Ronal Serpas, Crimestoppers’ Darlene Cusanza, and Mayor Landrieu held a press conference to announce the upped reward and give additional details on the crime.

Officer Pasaro was shot on the morning of February 23, responding to a robbery at the Dollar General on the corner of Poland and St. Claude (Bywater). Pasaro was shot multiple times, and all that officials could say about his current condition was that he had a “long road to recovery.” Officials asked citizens to keep Pasaro and his wife Stephanie in their thoughts and prayers.

Anderson said the upped reward is especially remarkable in light of recent budget woes. “Combined with the current $10,000 offered by Crimestoppers brings the total to $30,000 to bring this individual to justice. Although the FBI is in the midst of a budget crisis, we believe this reward represents critical support for NOPD operations, the Pasaro family, and the city of New Orleans,” he said.

Serpas also alerted local businesses that the suspect had likely been fired from his place of employment before the shooting occurred.

The individual, pictured below in a composite sketch, is described as between 5’5” and 5’7”, between 140-150 pounds, with a brown complexion.
