Eye on the Ball: Optometrist's Accused Killer Turned in By Family Member

FRENCH QUARTER - It took a little cooperation with the Show Me State, but the man New Orleans police believe killed a Slidell eye doctor in October was arrested today. Bobby Troy, 20, was arrested by U.S. Marshals in Moberly, Missouri, just before midnight Wednesday. He is accused of the October 16 robbery-murder of Brent Hachfeld, a 37-year-old optometrist, which occurred at corner of Dauphine and Dumaine Streets in the early morning hours. At a press conference from the scene of the crime, NOPD Chief Ronal Serpas said a family member called to turn Troy in.

“The fact that a family member reached out to police to turn in Bobby Troy is exactly the right thing to do.  Without doubt - this person I’m certain has the gratitude of Dr. Hachfeld’s family, this police department and the people of New Orleans," Serpas said.

Serpas can now say he took a balanced approach to Troy's family. In a news conference earlier this week, the Chief rolled out arrest records for other members of Troy's kin - including his mother - and called them "a family of criminals." Troy's mother was then fired from her job as a result of the comments, she claimed. In response, a justice group filed a complaint against Serpas with NOPD's Public Intgrity Bureau.

Cops caught Troy on surveillance video from Sunday as he heading out of town from the Greyhound station on Loyola Ave. bound for Columbia, Mo. Troy was enrolled at Dillard University, and lived in an apartment on campus, police said. Troy was linked to the crime by DNA evidence found at the scene.

Troy is being held at the Randolph County jail in Missouri, and was charged with second degree murder. He will eventually be extradited to New Orleans for trial.

He is innocent and has not

He is innocent and has not had any major run one with the law.he is a great person and is well loved.yall have the wrong person.I bet if Hatchfed killed Bobby this would be totally different.still rascist I see.and fuck Serpas he has his own trouble with the law while he tryna look down on the next.this boy was in college one of the best schools in the city,he is a good person and fun to be around. It's fuked up he's in this situation but God sees and knows all

Clearly you're the same kind

Clearly you're the same kind of trash that Bobby Troy is. God does know all, and we will all answer for our sins. I pray that Troy answers for his, and I pray that you get a brain. Look at the way you spell and your grammar. I bet you contribute a lot to society. Why don't you quit "tryna be hard," because we can all see that you're just a simpleton idiot who can't function with intelligence. If you can't be reasonable and see that science and evidence has put Troy at the scene of the crime and that he's guilty, maybe there's something else clouding your judgement. You think Serpas is racist? Look in the mirror. You assume Troy's innocent because he's black. You're the racist.
