Edmund Kee: A Remembranceby Lianna Patch Edmund Kee, 31, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012, in New Orleans. He died at home. He died too soon. Edmund was the publisher, editor-in-chief, and driving force of Amelie G Style Magazine, a publication that I joined in early 2011. Through Edmund’s vision and labor of love—which he undertook while continuing a full-time career as a senior engineer at Entergy—Amelie G became an internationally distributed magazine. He supported a team of writers, stylists, photographers, editors and other contributors, and settled for nothing less than our best work.
Edmund knew what he wanted from the magazine and he shaped it with a careful hand and constant encouragement. I would never have believed that Amelie G could have come this far if I hadn’t seen Edmund make it happen. If he wanted something, he simply set his mind to accomplishing it: the magazine shot lush, inventive fashion editorials all over the globe, interviewed game-changing style icons, and began to define style not only for New Orleans, but for readers everywhere. Edmund came to every meeting with a wide smile and a notebook full of ideas. Not doable ideas, restricted by time or finances, but big ideas, “why not?” ideas, plans for the future of Amelie G that ignited excitement and engagement in his team.
Edmund’s last Letter from the Editor captured his potent philosophy in one sentence: “In the engineering world, every problem is perceived as a positive opportunity to invent, create and resolve.” Amelie G Magazine faced many setbacks, but I never heard Edmund complain. He attributed his success to the people who stood behind him. He found the time to write thank-you notes.
I wish I could have called Edmund a friend, but I didn’t know him well enough. I was just beginning to understand what a powerful force he was, just beginning to realize what kind of personality it takes to be at once an entrepreneur, visionary, friend and resource. I was just beginning to know Edmund’s generosity and the powerful positivity that helped him accomplish his goals. There weren’t enough hours in the day for everything Edmund wanted to do, and everything I saw him do, he did with the best intentions.
The shock of Edmund’s death is starting to spread through our city. Who knows how many lives he touched, even indirectly? My heart goes out to his wife and family.
Goodbye, Edmund. |
