Downtown Parade Planner: Routes, Info for 'tit Rəx, Krewe of Chewbacchus

The Krewe of Freret’s inaugural roll will be chock full of locally made beads and trinkets Uptown, but there's plenty of local action to catch parade-wise below Canal as well. In the Marigny-Bywater, ‘tit r?x and Chewbacchus are the main attractions for Saturday night (2-22). The microkrewe rolls at 5 p.m., followed by the Intergalactic revelers at 8 p.m.

The Krewe of ‘tit r?x eschwas big parade floats, or even elaborate costumes, for shoebox creations. With a name taken from the Cajun word for petite, the tiny krewe is a tongue-in-cheek reaction to the decadence and massive size of super krewes. This year’s theme is “Wee the People.”

Here is the route, the same as last year’s.

COMPLETE NODEF CARNIVAL COVERAGE

The Krewe of Chewbacchus is focusing on Star Trek again this year, but all sci fi nerds are welcome. The parade goes through the Marigny, and it ends at the Trash Palace (2121 Chartres) for the annual Chewbacchanal.

Chewbacchus was formed in 2011, and they maintain their original slogan: "Saving the Galaxy, One Drunken Nerd at a Time." The krewe welcomes anyone, group, sci-fi organization to join in the parade each year. There are 30 sub krewes, including a new one this year, “The Party Elves of Mirkwood,” which is inspired by Lord of the Rings.
