Crossdressing Crook Robs The Mushroom

For years, the Mushroom has been selling records and water pipes “for tobacco use only,” but apparently, free stickers with purchase were not enough for one cross-dressing crook and his accomplice. On Friday night, two men (one of them, 6’ in drag) robbed the popular Tulane area record store and head shop.

The duo walked into store at 1037 Broadway on June 22 around 10:00pm. The crossdresser, wearing a black dress and a wig, approached the register and asked to use the bathroom. Meanwhile the other male stationed himself as lookout at the front door. The crossdresser then walked behind the counter and demanded that the clerk open the register. The other suspect ordered a second employee to open the safe in the manager’s office. The pair ultimately fled on foot with over $2,000 in cash.

The incident was captured on the store’s video surveillance camera, which has yet to be released by the NOPD.

The crossdressing suspect is described as a black male, stocky build, approximately 6’0, wearing a black dress and a dark wig. The other suspect is described as a black male, light complexion, approximately 5’08 tall, wearing dark jeans and a dark shirt, with a bandana around his face. Fortunately, no employees were hurt, and the Bob Marley poster collection emerged unscathed.

Thank you, good reader. You are right. We do not have the suspect's stool sample at this time. It was, in fact, a "dark shirt".
