Crime Bits: Face Time, Christmas Prep Interrupted by Thieves, French Quarter Stabbing

Crime continued its relentless disruption of New Orleans life Sunday. A man was ambushed while hanging Christmas lights, and a Bourbon St. stroller saw his IPhone turn into a pair of thieves' early present in mid-video chat. A few blocks over in the Quarter, a celebration turned ugly when a woman was stabbed with a wine bottle. At UNO, a man was robbed while returning to his on-campus apartment. Click through for all the details:

from NOPD reports:

On Sunday, another iPhone snatching upended a man's night, as well as some quality Face Time. About 5:30 p.m., the man was walking in the 400 block of Bourbon Street while getting in some video chatting with a friend. A teen then walked up behind the man and tried to take the iPhone. Moments later, another teen with long braids punched the man in the head. The first teen the took the man's phone, and both fled up Bourbon St. toward Conti, then went on Conti toward the River.

Anyone with information on the suspects should contact Detective Michael Flores at (504)658-6707 or mflores@nola.gov. Surveillance video shows the crime as it happened, and the suspects:

About 7:20 p.m., the French Quarter's usual vessels of celebration turned into a weapon. Kim Dumas, 39, allegedly got into a fight with another 39-year-old woman in the 300 block Chartres St., Dumas then broke a wine bottle and stabbed the victim in the chest. The woman suffered minor lacerations in the incident. Dumas was booked on Aggravated Battery charges.

Just before 8 p.m. on Sunday night, a UNO student was robbed at his on-campus apartment. The man opened the door at the Privateer Place Apartments, and was confronted by two armed men, who demanded money. He handed over the loot, and reported the incident to campus police.

About 9:30 p.m. Sunday a man was hanging Christmas lights on his house in the 5400 block of Pratt Dr., when he was approached by three men wearing black hooded sweatshirts, bandanas and armed with handguns. The trio told the man to get off his ladder, and forced him into the house. The men then tied the man's wrists together, and searched his house. They stole cash, a cell phone, two laptop computers, a tablet computer, jewelry, luggage and a wallet.
