Jan 1- 7: Shot for Pot, Ideal Mart Robbed, Graffiti Arrest



In this week's rundown of wrongdoing, there was a shooting in the 9th Ward, a man was robbed in the Riverbend, and the Ideal Mart in Mid-City was held up. Read on for more crime bits. 

 

Graffiti Arrest

Tana Walters, 27, was arrested yesterday for tagging a home in the 1200 block of Decatur, according to police. The victim identified Walters on surveillance camera defacing her home.

 

The victim called police, and Walters was arrested shortly thereafter, according to police. Walters was booked with criminal damage to historic buildings or landmarks.  

 

Pot shot

The victim was driving around 1 p.m.  in the 4700 block of America St. on Tuesday when he lost control of his stash. The victim’s bag of marijuana “flew out of the vehicle,” according to NOPD, and he stopped his car to retrieve it.

 

Green with envy, an unknown subject approached the victim with a gun and tried to rob him, according to NOPD. Then, the victim grabbed the gun, and a struggle ensued. During the altercation, the gun fired and shot the victim in the hand.

 

 

French Quarter Cutting

On Saturday at midnight, a group of males and females began arguing in the 800 block of St. Ann. The altercation turned violent when someone stabbed the 21-year-old victim in the leg. The victim was taken to the hospital.

 

Riverbend Robbery  

Friday at 7:49 p.m., the victim was walking near the intersection of Panola St. and Pine St. when he heard a door slam. Then, the perp approached the victim from behind, pointed a gun at his back and “demanded property from him.”

 

The suspect left the scene in a green Grand Am.

Lower Garden District Robbery

Two women were working at a store in the 2800 block of Magazine on Saturday, around 8 p.m. An unknown man entered the business and threatened the two victims with a handgun. He then took cash and one of victim’s iPhones before he fled the scene.

 

9th Ward Shooting

On Saturday at midnight, the victim walked out of an alley in the 5100 block of St. Claude and was greeted with gunfire. An unknown person began shooting and struck the victim. 

 

Lights and fire

At midnight on Friday, a the victim was approached by a stranger who asked him for a light. The victim ran, and the perp shot him.

 

Mid-City Armed Robbery

A man robbed an Ideal Mart (3340 Orleans Avenue) on Monday around midnight, according to NOPD. The suspect walked into the store wielding a handgun, and he pointed his weapon at the cashier and demanded money. The victim complied, and the suspect fled on foot.

 

The victim said the suspect is a black male about 23-25 years old, according to NOPD. The suspect is about 5 ft. 9 inches with a medium build and medium complexion. The armed robber was wearing a grey hoodie, a black beanie, and a handkerchief over his face.  

 

Anyone with information on these crimes is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 822-1111. Victims can receive cash rewards for information leading to the arrest and/or indictment of guilty person(s), and callers can submit information anonymously.
