Crescent City Crime Update: 6 Wounded in 5 Shootings, Pair of Armed Rip-Offs UptownNew Orleans police responded to five shootings across the city on Monday night. No one died in the four-hour spate of violence, which occurred in five different neighborhoods. Uptown, police also responded to a midday carjacking which happened while a woman was washing her car on Willow Street in Carrollton, and an Uptown home invasion in which a woman was forced into her home at gunpoint so a man could steal her TV. The first shooting happened at about 7 p.m. in Central City. A man was shot in the foot at S. Liberty and St. Andrew Street, according to New Orleans police. He was running away when he heard shots, then discovered he'd been hit.
About 10 p.m., police responded to two shootings at about the same time. In Hollygrove, a man was shot in the shoulder near the intersection of General Ogden and Olive Sts. Police were responding to calls about a suspicious person in the area, and arrived to find the man wounded.
In a separate incident in Mid-City, a man was shot in the leg in the 600 block of S. Pierce St. According to police, three men followed a man while he was walking toward Tulane Avenue. The trio then walked behind a vehicle in the block, and one of the group members fired what appeared to be a black pistol at the man. He suffered a gunshot wound to the lower portion of his left leg.
The next shooting was just after 11 p.m. in Treme. A man said he was on his way to visit a friend, when when he was approached by a man that appeared to be 18 years of age at the intersection of Conti and N. Dorgenois Street. The unknown black male was described as being 18-19 years of age and wearing an unknown The assailant started shooting at the victim as he approached the man. The man was shot in the left shin, according to a police report.
The fifth shooting, which also occurred about 11 p.m. injured two people. In the 1900 block of Pauger Street, one man was shot in the neck and another was shot in the leg. The men were standing on the sidewalk when a gray, four-door vehicle pulled up. The driver fired several shots at the victims, who were transported to University Hospital.
Uptown Crime
Earlier in the afternoon, a woman was carjacked on Willow Street in the Carrollton neighborhood. Her gold Lexus SUV was stolen at gunpoint. According to Uptown Messenger, the woman was cleaning out her car when she was approached by a young man with a "big gun." The car was later found behind a house in the 1700 block of General Ogden, which is known as a dump for stolen cars.
At about 12:40 a.m. in the 1200 block of Bourdeaux Street, a woman was getting out of her car in front of her house when a man approached and pointed a gun at the woman and said, "Give me what you got." The woman then turned over her purse, cell phone and iPad. The robber then said "Is this your house," then forced the woman inside the home. He then told the woman to go in another room and turn her back. The man then took her 32-in. flatscreen TV, and fled.
The robber is described as a black male, 5 ft. 5 in. tall with a slim build and between the ages of 18-22.
