In this week's file of foul play, a mugger with a metal pipe struck twice, a teen was connected to a Saturday night out filled with carjackings and shootings and a man was tied up in his own home by a pair of acquaintances. Each week, Crescent City Crime Bits provides a full look at the past seven days on the police beat:

Thursday, August 16

 

 

Car Stolen, Then Crashed 1300 block of Frankfort, 1:35 a.m. A 2008 tan Toyota Highlander was taken from outside a house, but it didn't get very far. The vehicle was later found wrecked near the corner of Gibson St and Senate St.

 

 

Murder in the East 7500 block of Chef Menteur, 1:25 p.m. Herbert Nealy, 35, was founded lying outside a barber shop, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene. Witnesses reported seeing two men run away from the area after the shooting. Police identified Travis Peters as the suspect in the crime, and said the murder is drug-related.

 

 

Safety Net Cut 2900 block of Bruxelles, 7:00 pm A woman discovered social security checks missing from her purse.

 

 

Baseball Bat Burglary 1200 block of Peniston, 10:45 p.m. A 33-year-old man was awakened by intruders, who hit him over the head with a baseball bat.

 

 

Murder in Algiers 3500 block of Blair, 11:30 p.m. A man was found lying face down, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the body. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

 

 

 

Friday, August 17

 

Marigny Mugger Attacks Woman 1900 block of Burgundy Street, 1:15 a.m. A woman was walking with a friend when a man got out of a car and began to attack her and demanded money. He put her in a headlock and hit her several times in the head. The man then got back into the car without any of the woman's property, and sped away.

 

 

Metal Pipe Mugger Strikes Woman 5000 block of Chef Menteur, 1:35 a.m. A woman was was parking her car at a motel when a man with a thick beard and a white rag covering the top of his head got out of a silver vehicle armed with a metal pipe. He demanded she drop her purse, to which she complied.  The woman then tried to run into the hotel room, but the man hit her  several times before she was able to enter the room.  The attacker then attempted to enter the room, but couldn't, so he fled instead.

 

 

Second Metal Pipe Mugging 4200 block of Old Gentilly Road, 2:30 a.m. A man tried to rob a couple outside a hotel with a metal pipe. The 48-year-old assailant was arrested after the incident. Police are investigating whether the two metal pipe incidents are related.

 

 

Murder in Central City 12:30 p.m., 1600 S. Saratoga A man was shot in the head and upper torso while walking. He later died of his wounds. The man was identified as 20-year-old Raymond White.

 

 

Shooting in the East Morrisson and Hayne, 11:15 p.m. A man heard three shots ring out while walking. He discovered he was shot in the leg.

 

 

Arts Theft 1500 block of Arts, 11:38 p.m. A man was approached by two other men who demanded his money. The man complied and the two assailants ran off. 

 

 

Saturday, August 18

 

Stabbing in Mid-City 4200 block Ulloa Street, 6:05 a.m. Two men got into argument over drugs. When the argument escalated, one of the men stabbed the other in the back and upper torso. He was later arrested.

 

 

Unclassified Death at Canal Street Hotel 600 block of Canal Street, 10:55 a.m. A man was found unresponsive and lying face up in a J.W. Marriott Hotel room by housekeeping. The cause was not immediately known.

 

 

Ransacking in the East 7500 block of Weaver, 1:40 p.m. Two men knocked at the door of a house and forced their way inside. They demanded to know where jewelry was. The forced a woman's son and nephew inside a bathroom while they ransacked the residence.

 

 

Stabbing in Central City Danneel and Foucher, 9:55 p.m. Two women got into a fight. As it escalated, one of the women stabbed the other in the side and left wrist. Bridgette Martin, 34, was arrested in the incident.

 

 

Attempted Robbery of Pizza Man 7300 block of Cohn, 10 p.m. A pizza man was sittingi in his car when a man ith a shirt covering his face walked up with a black semi-automatic handgun. The man then realized the driver had no money and fled with a lookout wearing a black ski mask and red-and-white baseball cap.

 

 

Gang Carjacking Thwarted in the East 11 Curtis Drive, 11:15 p.m. Between 8 and 10 men surrounded a woman's car. One of the men pointed a gun, and demanded she get out of the car. The man fired a shot, and the woman got out of the car, but shegrabbed the keys from the ignition.  The group got into the car and realized the keys were missing. Unable to go anywhere, they stole some of the woman's property and fled on foot.

 

 

Man Bound and Robbed By People He Knew 6600 block of Avenue B 11:30 pm A man allowed two acquaintances into his residence, but they quickly proved why they didn't earn friend status. The attackers bound the man and forced him to give up the combination to his home safe. Several electronics, jewelry, photographs and prescription medication were taken from the home.

 

 

Armed Carjacking Succeeds in the East 7400 block of Morrisson Road, 11:40 p.m. A woman was driving when she saw a man in the middle of the street. He brandished a gun, and demanded she get out of the car. The woman complied, and several men got into the car and drove off

 

 

Sunday, August 19

 

Shooting in the East, Three Incidents Connected After Arrest 9900 block Lake Forest Blvd., 12:30 a.m. Four men riding in a vehicle approached two teenagers, and opened fire. One of the teens was shot in the head, while the other was shot in the leg. The car then sped off. Two hours later, police found the car that was stolen earlier in the carjacking, and four men bolted after a brief chase. A 16-year-old was arrested by police, and they later found property from the first carjacking and positively identified the boy as being connected to the second incident, and possibly the shooting.

 

 

Woman Wields Butcher Knife 4300 block of Wellington Ave., 6:45 a.m. A 41-year-old woman resorted to cutlery to keep order in the home. She was arrested for threatening family members with a butcher’s knife. 

 

 

Stabbing outside St. Roch Tavern Marais and St. Roch, 7:20 a.m. A man was in the St. Roch Tavern with a woman. When he left the bar, he was followed by a different woman. She later stabbed him in the right chest and left thumb, and he was taken to University Hospital. It is unknown if an argument lead to the violent altercation.

 

 

Aggravated Rape in Algiers 2110 Cypress, 10:00 a.m. A woman reported being sexually assaulted by a group of four men, all 17-17 years old.

 

 

Gun Stolen From Car 6100 block of Vicksburg, 2:40 pm The sliding rear window of a vehicle was forced open. A .40 cal Smith & Wesson handgun was stolen from the car.

 

 

Stabbing in the East 7200 block of Culpepper, 4:10 p.m. A man knocked on a woman's door asking for "Campbell." The woman said no one lived there by that name, and shut the door. The man banged on the door until the woman opened again. The man then forced his way in and cut the woman on the forehead with a razor.

 

 

Seventh Ward Shooting Pauger and N. Tonti 8:10 p.m. A man was shot in the right arm while walking. He was taken to University Hospital in a private vehicle for treatment.

 

 

Monday, August 20 

 

Unclassified Death in Bayou St. John 300 block of N. Rendon Street, 2:40 p.m. A man was found lying down face up in a home with a bruise on his left eye. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

 

 

Willow Walker Held Up 3200 block of Willow Street, 8:00 p.m. A man approached a pedestrian on foot, produced a gun and demanded money. The man fled with $60 cash.

 

 

 

Tuesday, August 21

 

Ambush on Montegut 3:00 p.m., 1000 block of Montegut Street A 30-year-old woman was leaving her home when she was forced back inside by a man. She said she didn't have any money, and the man hit over the head with a gun. Two other people then went into the home and tool $100 cash, two cellphones and a flat screen television. The trio then fled.

 

 

Holdup in the East Hammond Street and Bonita Drive, 4:45 p.m. A 15-year-old was approached from behind by a man while walking home. The teen was forced into a vehicle where three other people were waiting. The group then took the boy's wallet, cellphone and headphones, and he was thrown out of the car.

 

Murder in Algiers 1200 block of Teche Street, 11:20 p.m. In the waning hours of his 30th birthday, someone opened fire on a 20-year-old. He was found dead after being shot multiple times.

 

 

Wednesday, August 22

 

Shakedown at Chevron 1600 block of Elysian Fields, 5:00 a.m. A man was standing outside the Chevron gas station when two men approached and forced him inside the building. Once inside, the men took the man's wallet and cash from the store's registers.

 

 

Murder in Harmony Oaks 2800 block of Magnolia Street, 5:00 p.m. A 17-year-old man was found lying in the driveway of the public housing community. He was shot multiple times, and was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. Witnesses reported seeing a black Acura speeding away from the area just after the shooting.
