Crack Clampdown


A citizen tip resulted in a bust at an alleged Algiers crack house on Wednesday (4.08). The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) Street Gang Task Force Unit arrested three men on drug charges, rescued a baby, and seized a stash of crack after the dust had settled.

 

According to NOPD PIO Garry Flot, two officers were on patrol when the tip that drugs were being sold out of an apartment at 3401 Garden Oaks Drive around 5:40p.m. The cops headed to the apartment and knocked on the door, according to police.

 

Flot says that the smell of weed was evident even before the door was opened, but when when the one suspect did open it, the officers saw two men sitting on the couch with pot and crack in plain sight.

 

One the men allegedly sprinted to the bathroom in an attempt to flush the evidence. Police soon cuffed 24-year-old Tyrus Bartholomew, 28-year-old Ellis Brown and 29-year-old Ryan Craig and secured a two-year-old child.

 

The incident got called in and detectives with a warrant from a Magistrate Judge were on the scene quickly according to authorities. After the search, 18 grams of crack cocaine, approximately 12.5 grams of marijuana, and $608.00 in cash were seized from the apartment, noted Flot.

 

Child Protective Services were called in for the two year old, and after investigation, the child was released to her mother.

 

Bartholomew, Brown and Craig were booked with possession with the intent to distribute crack cocaine and possession of marijuana.  Craig was additionally booked with a probation violation.
