Chilling Effects (Cocktail Recipes)


A few minutes in the sauna that is all of NOLA outdoors right now will confirm that summer has officially begun. The best way to beat the heat is lots of water, but a refreshing adult beverage is also pretty helpful. NoDef’s friends at Emeril’s were kind enough to share a few of their favorite cocktails for y’all to test out at home. Click on through for recipes.

 

Strawberry Fields

Ingredients:

  • 1½ ounces strawberry purée
  • 1 ounce Aperol
  • 1 ounce simple syrup
  • 1 ounce red wine
  • 1 ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 4 basil leaves

Muddle 3 basil leaves in a cocktail shaker. Add Aperol, simple syrup, red wine, lemon juice and a scoop of ice; shake well to combine. Strain into a pilsner glass over fresh ice and garnish with the remaining sprig of basil.

 

Simple Sage

Ingredients:

  • 4 fresh sage leaves
  • 1½ ounces bourbon
  • ½ ounce green Chartreuse
  • 1 ounce simple syrup
  • ½ ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice

Muddle 3 sage leaves in a cocktail shaker; add bourbon, Chartreuse, simple syrup and lemon juice along with a scoop of ice and shake until well-blended and thoroughly chilled. Pour into a rocks glass over fresh ice. Garnish with the remaining sage leaf.

 

Delmonico Daiquiri

Ingredients:

  • 1½ ounces aged rum
  • 1 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice
  • ½ ounce coconut syrup
  • Toasted coconut, for rimming the glass
  • Lime twist, for garnish

Combine rum, lime juice and coconut syrup over ice in a cocktail shaker; shake until well-chilled. Strain over fresh ice into a rocks glass that is rimmed with toasted coconut. Garnish with a twist of lime and enjoy.

 

With The Seeds

Ingredients:

  • 1½ ounces tequila
  • ½ ounce Aperol
  • ½ ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • ½ ounce simple syrup
  • One 2½ inch cube watermelon
  • Shaved dark chocolate, for garnish
  • Twist of lime, for garnish

Combine tequila, Aperol, lemon juice, simple syrup and watermelon in a cocktail shaker over ice; shake vigorously until well-chilled. Strain the cocktail into a chilled martini glass; garnish with the shaved dark chocolate and twist of lime.

 

Pretty Ricky

Ingredients:

  • 1½ ounces tequila
  • ½ ounce St. Germaine Elderflower liqueur
  • 1 teaspoon of maraschino cherry juice and 2 cherries
  • ¼ ounce freshly squeezed lime juice
  • Soda water, to top off drink
  • Strip of lime peel, for garnish

In a double old fashion glass filled with ice, add tequila, elderflower liqueur, cherry juice, cherries and lime juice. Add a splash of soda water to top off the drink, stir to combine. Garnish with the lime peel and enjoy.

 

Citrus Martini

Ingredients:

  • 1½ ounces Absolut Citron vodka
  • 1½ ounces Absolut Mandarin vodka
  • ¼ ounce simple syrup
  • ¼ ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • ¼ ounce freshly squeezed lime juice
  • ¼ ounce freshly squeezed orange juice
  • Orange wheel, for garnish

Combine all the ingredients except for the orange wheel in a cocktail shaker over ice and shake until well-chilled. Strain into a martini glass and garnish with the orange wheel.
