Carver Theater Hosts Fix My Choir

Like churches across the city, the newly reopened Carver Theater is set for some joyful noise on Sunday (6-8). The Treme theater (2101 Orleans Ave.) will play host to the in-progress Oxygen Network reality show Fix My Choir for a performance that is free and open to the public.

According to a news release, the segment filmed at the Carver will feature a performance from Joshua Kagler & the Harmonisitic Praise Crusade, a local community gospel choir featuring up to 20 members and a full band. Along with the group, former Destiny's Child member Michelle Williams and Fix My Choir host Deitrick Haddon will be onhand.

Currently filming its first season, Fix My Choir features Haddon and Williams' efforts to mentor struggling gospel groups across the country. The show's premiere date has yet to be announced.

The filming session marks the first gospel performance at the Carver since it was reopened in May. Organizers want the performance to double as a fundraiser for Kagler & HPC, with a suggested donation of $10 for attendees. Sign-up for members of the public who wish to be in the audience will begin at 2 p.m. The concert begins at 3 p.m.
