Cake Walk

NoDef's King Cake Tasting Returns to Ogden Thursday

Carnival means parades and costumes and king cake lots of king cake. It’s hard to find a keg cake outside of the Gulf Coast, but we have enough options to fill in the quota for the rest of the country. With so many choices, it’s best to let the people choose. So, NoDef’s King Cake Walk will return to the Ogden Museum of Southern Art on Thursday (1.28) from 6p.m. to 8p.m.

Two-time reigning champions Bittersweet Confections will once again be back to defend their crown. So, will year one victor, Cake Café’s apple and goat cheese opus which has fallen short of the top spot by just a few votes in the past coupe of years.

Two dozen other Carnival confectionary competitors will join them. Other participants include Haydel’s, Emeril's, Sucre, La Boulangerie, Fresh Market, and Mr. Gregory’s.

Plus, there will be music. Singer-songwriter Dave Jordan will be performing live. Mid-City loyalist Jordan is an alumn of Juice and went on to found the Neighborhood Improvement Association. His sound combines roots, Americana, rock, and lots of NOLA.

Guests can sample all of the cakes, then vote on their favorites. NoDef will count all of the votes and name a winner the next day. Tasters can also submit comments on the cakes through Twitter for NoDef to include in our write up on Friday.

Be sure to arrive early as the cake draws a big crowd!

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the fun begins at 6:00p.m., and admission is $12.50. There will be a full bar.
