Boil Water Advisory Issued for East Bank of New Orleans It's berl time once again, and we aren't talking about crawfish. The City issued a boil water advisory for the East Bank of New Orleans early this afternoon as a result of a power outage at the main Sewerage and Water Board plant this morning. Until further notice, residents shouldn't use tap water unless it has been properly disinfected for one minute. Power was restored immediately after the outage, which occurred at 8:30 a.m. The advisory does not affect Algiers.
The water may be unsafe due to "bactereological contamination," according to the City. Activities that are unsafe pre-boil include drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, bathing and showering and rinsing food. Water should be boiled for one minute in a clean container for proper disinfection. The minute starts after the water comes to a "rolling boil," according to the City.
The City last saw a boil water alert go out after a power failure in November, 2010. That advisory lasted for nearly two days. |
