Blessing & a Curse: Odell Beckham Jr. Makes Madden Cover

The New York Football Giants might be a little worried about the alleged “Madden Curse,” but the LSU faithful are elated. Tiger alum and native New Orleanian Odell Beckham, Jr. was announced as the cover boy for the blockbuster videogame title’s 2015 edition.

Beckham won a vote to receive the honor. A 22 year old coming off of his rookie season, he is the youngest player to make the cover.

Beckham tweeted his appreciation for the honor, “Man I just personally wanna thank all the love and support from everybody for voting today !! It's mean so much to be on the cover of Madden.”

In a later interview with ESPN’s Sportscaster, Beckham dismissed the fabled curse, stating, “I don’t believe in curses.”

Despite the Giants pathetic showing this season, Beckham made national headlines with a three fingered catch that some pundits have labeled as the “best ever.” Although, the receiver played in only 12 games during the year, he managed to catch 91 passes for 1,305 and 12 touchdowns.

The Newman School grad was a standout in his college career also. In his final year in the Red Stick, he racked up 2,222 all-purpose yards, which was good enough to break the decade-old school record set by Domanick Davis. The old record was 100 yards fewer than Beckham's mark at 2,100 yards. Additionally, Beckham missed significant time during both the Texas A&M and Arkansas games when he could have rang up even more yardage. He finished the 2013 season with the second most all-purpose yardage total in SEC history.

Drew Brees graced the cover in 2011. The Saints have not won the Super Bowl since.
