The inaugural Birdfoot Chamber Music Festival launches tonight with a concert at the Old U.S. Mint. The festival offers a chance to see intimate pieces in a shifting scene of intimate settings - and a chance to enjoy a drink while listening. A wide variety of musicians, both from all over the U.S. and - through a mentoring program - from local schools, will play at the trio of performances. Click through for details about each engagement: Thursday, May 24 Festival Concert Old U.S. Mint, 8:00 p.m. Selections include Gabriel Fauré's Piano Quartet no. 2 in G minor, Benjamin Britten's String Quartet no. 3 and Johannes Brahms' Piano Quintet in F minor. The performance features a discussion of the music lead by the musicians, and a cash bar. Admission: $20 Friday, May 25 Party in the Piazza Piazza d'Italia, 5:30 p.m. Is your Friday Happy Hour missing the sound of serenading strings? This might be the answer. Selections include duos by Béla Bartók, Brahms' Hungarian Dances for piano four-hands, excerpts of Brahms’ Piano Quintet in F minor, and Antonín Dvorák’s String Serenade in E major. Food and drink will be sold. $10 admission. Saturday, May 26 Gala Celebration Dixon Hall at Tulane University, 8:00 p.m. The big bash to close out the festival.
