NOPD Make Big Bust Blocks From Fest

The vending rules at Jazz Fest are pretty strict. Even if you live nearby, the Fest frowns down upon unlicensed sales. If those unlicensed sales are enough drugs to stock Hunter S. Thompson’s suitcase, the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) does not appreciate it either. Today, detectives busted a Mid City man for allegedly planning to sell a potpourri of recreational narcotics.

NOPD PIO Garry Flot says that on Thursday (4.23), police acted on a Crimestoppers tip that a man was selling around the corner from the Fair Grounds at 1421 Verna Street. The NOPD Third District General Assignment Unit, along with the DEA Task Force and Homeland Security Investigators conducted quick surveillance and gathered enough evidence for a warrant to search the home of 32-year-old Christian Prechter.

However, Flot says that as the paperwork was being prepared Precheter got in a car and started to drive off. Detectives decided to stop his vehicle and say that they discovered 12 oxycontin tablets.

Police say that they then served the warrant and discovered two pounds of marijuana, approximately two pounds of psilocybin (‘shrooms), approximately one pound of hash, approximately seven grams of LSD (lysergic acid) and approximately $1,800.00 in cash.

Prechter was then arrested and charged with several different counts of possession with intent to distribute. The Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office website says that bond has been posted for Prechter.

Reader with information about this incident are asked to call Crimestoppers at 822-1111 or toll-free 1-877-903-STOP.  You could receive a cash reward of up to $2,500 for the information leading only to the arrest, except on homicides, where Crimestoppers will pay half of the reward upon the arrest and half on the indictment of the responsible person(s).  You do not have to give your name nor testify to receive the reward but you must contact Crimestoppers directly with your information. Citizens can also submit an anonymous tip online to Crimestoppers at www.crimestoppersgno.org
