Art without Admission: Free Museum Day Tomorrow by Lianna Patch Raise your hand if you like free things. Now raise your hand if you like museums. If you kept your hand up, you’ll be excited to learn that this Saturday, September 29, is Museum Day Live! Sponsored by Smithsonian magazine, the event is your chance to wander museums and plantations in and around New Orleans without having to buy so much as a pencil at the gift shop.
Participating museums include the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Contemporary Arts Center, the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, the African American Museum, the Historic New Orleans Collection, and even the Louisiana Children’s Museum. You can also visit Melrose Plantation, Oak Alley Plantation, or Longue Vue House and Gardens.
Perhaps best of all, local doll enthusiasts can check out House of Broel’s Victorian Mansion Dollhouse and Fashion Museums on St. Charles Avenue, which, in addition to showcasing historically accurate scale models of mansions, offers the inimitable Louisiana Frog Farm. I know where I’ll be.
