Amoss: The Times-Picayune Will Take Brett Anderson Back After Fellowship Brett Anderson isn't getting canned after all. As the firing squad did their work at the Times-Picayune earlier this week, it was widely reported that Da Paper's much-loved and awarded food critic Brett Anderson was among the carnage. Anderson has a prestigious Nieman Fellowship lined up at Harvard next year, and, thought it was shocking to many, the leave of absence apparently didn't fit into the NOLA Media Group's plans. But, this morning, Times-Picayune editor and soon-to-be NOLA Media Group boss Jim Amoss told Da Paper Anderson will be able to retain his high-profile role in New Orleans after his year in Cambridge.
"We should have communicated that this week when we announced the changes at our paper. We intend to honor our commitment to Brett," Amoss told Da Paper. "His work has been integral to the recovery of the dining scene in New Orleans."
On Thursday, Amoss told The New York Times' Diner's Journal that the new enterprise would feature food coverage "including restaurant reviews," with two full-time writers on the beat. But at that point, Amoss did not say who would fill the slots.
Later in the evening, Susan Langehennig, Da Paper's fashion editor who has also covered restaurants in recent months, said on Twitter that she would be moving full-time to food after the transition away from print in October.
