Accused Cabbie Killer Corralled Rodney Thornton A man wanted for killing a United Cabs driver in New Orleans East earlier this summer was arrested on second degree murder charges Thursday, according to police. Rodney Thornton, 30, allegedly shot 44-year-old Ali Husnain in the back of the head on the morning of July 9. Husnain was found in the back of an apartment complex in the 6000 block of Downman Road slumped over the steering wheel of his taxi. The car was still in drive, and the meter was running. Thornton was already in jail on a burlgary charge, and was booked on the new charges.
Police did not release a motive in the killing. Detectives determined that Husnain picked up his last fare about 2 a.m. that morning on Poydras Street. Surveillance video showed a man with a towel over his head hailing a cab. Another cabbie said Thornton tried to hail him, but Thornton refused him because he did not want to ride in the front seat. |
