150 Models Grace the Catwalk for Christmas Toy Fund, Pet Care Foundation

Tonight at the Metropolitan Nightclub (310 Andrew Higgins), a bevy of models will be unleashed On the Catwalk, and it's all for a cause.

The Hair and Fashion Extravaganza is bringing food, fun, and fashion to the Metro tonight, and all of the proceeds will be split between the West Jefferson Doll and Toy Fund and The Drew Pet Foundation.

For 12 years, The West Jefferson Doll and Toy Fund has provided children in need with Christmas toys. Fashion show organizer Jennifer Boutwell said that the organization provides a valuable service for the West Jeff community.

“They give out about 1600 toys every year,” Boutwell said. “Since we started the event four years ago, our proceeds have averaged $10,000. We’re going to split the money evenly between the two charities.”

The Drew Pet Foundation provides elderly people with resources to care for their pets such as food and veterinary care. Founder Sue Sampey said that the safety net her organization provides is a much-needed addition to the network of nonprofits geared towards animal care. “Some people spay and neuter, some people do no-kill shelter, and some people need to do kill shelters, unfortunately,” Sampey said. “We’re doing three things at once. We’re helping that elderly person, we’re helping their animals, and we’re keeping pets out of shelters.”

Boutwell said that attendees should expect lots of models and lots of looks to grace the catwalk.

“We’re going to have five salons, and each one has 20-30 models and teams up with a boutique. You’re looking at about 150 models if not more,” Boutwell said.

The pieces on the runway and the hair and make up will be provided by Salon Sanity, Salon Elle, Rag Doll, Michael Frank, Aveda Institute, Exchange Alley, Nolanitelife.com, Cinabar, and Apricot Lane.

Boutwell said that the event and the money it raises every year wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of the venue. “The metro has hosted it the last three years, and they’re great. They comped the place for it and I can’t think of better people to work with. The guys that work there are just fantastic,” Boutwell said. Tickets are $15 and can be preordered here. The show begins at 7:30pm, and doors open at 5pm.
