Results of NoDef's King Cake Walk are in

The results of NoDef's King Cake Walk are in! For the second year in a row, Bittersweet Confections has landed the win for their vibrantly sugared cake filled with rich chocolate. But, Bittersweet was only one of the local bakeries represented in the competition, all of whom brought their best game to the challenge. The barren platters at the event's end provided evidence that there are no loosers in the world of cake.

Whole Foods Broad Turns One

It seems like yesterday that the concept of putting a Whole Foods on Broad Street seemed absurd. However, the upscale market was built and has thrived in the 300 North Broad location. On Thursday (2.04), the location will celebrate their one year anniversary with a public party.

Whole Foods Talks Turkey With NoDef

Thanksgiving isn’t affectionately called Turkey Day for no reason. The bird has been part of the holiday going all the way back to the first Thanksgiving in 1621. While it isn’t certain whether the Pilgrims and the Native Americans actually feasted on the fowl, it is certain that millions of Americans will be eating turkey this Thanksgiving. The stress of cooking it is enough to ruffle anyone’s feathers. Here are some tips and tricks to cook the tasty bird that will be enough to impress even the most difficult of mother-in-laws.

Mid-City Whole Foods Opens

Heavy fog failed to damper local enthusiasm for the opening ceremony of the Broad Street Whole Foods store, with a few hundred people turning out to welcome the chain to the area this morning. Local officials, company men and area residents all talked about the store more in terms of community revitalization rather than just fresh food, though the $0.99/lb porkchops did prompt a line in the freezer section.

Whole Foods has already been offering job fairs and healthy eating classes in Treme and Mid-City, but makin' groceries isn't far behind. Broad St. bypassers have likely noticed the transformation of the former Schwegmann's near the corner of N. Broad and Bienville Sts. over the past two months. On Feb. 4, the new location will be ready to open its doors.

Whole Foods Hosts Health Series Before Broad St. Opening

The typical New Orleanian palate does not account for conscious eaters, but a new series from Whole Foods aims to teach residents how to make healthier versions of their favorite meals. Leading up to their new location’s opening, the store is hosting a series on eating well.  

Whole Foods Donates Sales to Girls on the Run

Regardless of what they put in their own carts, Big Easy grocery shoppers could make the city a little healthier this Wednesday. Both Whole Foods locations (5600 Magazine St. & 3420 Veterans Blvd.) are donating five percent of their net sales for the day to Girls on the Run. 

Whole Foods Delays Opening on Broad St.

Mid-City and Treme residents looking forward to makin' groceries at
Whole Foods 
will have to wait until the beginning of 2014. The N. Broad Street store's opening has been delayed from Dec. 16, 2013 to February 4, 2014, according to Whole Foods Community Relations Coordinator Kristina Bradford. However, the hiring process is already underway.

Whole Foods to Open New Store on N. Broad St.

Makin' groceries will soon return to N. Broad St. Whole Foods Market announced plans to move into the former Schwegmann's at the corner of Broad and Bienville Sts., bringing a hulking piece of blight back into commerce. The 25,000 sq. ft. store is set to open late in 2013, according to a statement issued by Whole Foods.
