Carnival Caucus: Pols Gather for Shucking and Drinking at Washington Mardi GrasDown here, we took a trip to King Athur's court and went under the sea with Oshun. But we didn't have all the fun over the weekend. Washington, DC, had its own voyage to a faraway place when the Mystick Krewe of Louisianans descended upon the nation's capital for its annual Washington Mardi Gras celebration. Celebrating the Louisiana Bicentennial with the theme, "200 Years with Oysters and Beers" was the theme of the annual comingling of Louisiana pols who go to Washington and the moneyed interests they meet along the way. Pols Loosen the Belt(way) at Washington Mardi GrasWith Edwin Edwards' annual backroom poker game a thing of the past and David Vitter seemingly incapable of doing anything embarrassing enough to get voted out of office, the penny pinchers in the NoDef front offices did not see fit to send a correspondent to this year's Washington Mardi Gras. But, we do have the Internet to sort of give us an idea of what's happening up at the annual inside-the-beltway Carnival gathering of Louisiana politicos, their good friends and most beloved lobbyists. Some bits and pieces are after the jump. They're not the politicians' bits and pieces, we promise! |
