Mayor Mitch, Trombone Shorty Play Warren Easton High School Pep Rallyby Shay Sokol MID-CITY - Mayor Mitch is already on the record as a singer, but today he revealed another key to his soulful side: a turn on the trumpet. Da Mayor and Trombone Shorty made a surprise appearance at a Warren Easton High School pep rally this afternoon to drop off 200 professional-level trumpets and trombones for the school. At about 2:45 p.m., while school brass were reading the current honor roll, Landrieu and Shorty entered the school's gym fronting a brass band. Man Arrested for Shooting 5 After Warren Easton Basketball GameA man who shot five people following a Warren Easton High School basketball game Friday was taken into custody yesterday, police said. Shawn Ballard, 18, was charged with five counts of second degree murder after he turned himself into police Monday, according to New Orleans police spokeswoman Remi Braden. Shortly before 10 p.m. Friday, NOPD says Ballard fired into a crowd at the corner of Iberville and N. Gayoso. Ballard was targeting someone in the crowd with whom he has an ongoing feud, police said. All of the shooting victims in the case sustained non-life-threatening wounds. Booted: NOPD Officer Fired After Kicking Teen, LyingYet another NOPD officer was fired today.This time, the officer for being untruthful with investigators about kicking a Warren Easton student unnecessarily on Sept. 24, 2010. According to an NOPD statement, investigators say former Officer Chadwick Taylor, 32 and a 6-year veteran, was involved in a fight with the student at the 300-block of North Gayoso Street in Mid-City after arriving at the scene to investigate a report of an alleged drug deal. |
