Baie Rouge Brings Family-Friendly, Fine Food Uptown



Another restaurant joins the roster of Magazine munchies. Despite a bubble gum pink exterior, Baie Rouge packs some serious talent.  Led by Chef Michael Capiton, former executive chef at Eleven 79 and former sous chef at Galatoire’s, the recently opened resto at 4128 Magazine St. promises gourmet quality without the white linen tablecloths.  


Tip Leads Police to Uptown Stash of Stolen Scooters


A pair of stolen scooters recovered Uptown this week, as detectives got a tip that a man was hiding the motorbikes at his house. On Thursday, NOPD detective Shaun Ferguson got a tip from the public that the scooters were being hidden at a house in the 4300 block of Perrier St.

Oak Street continues its resurgence as yet another new delicious destination calls Carrolton home.  Amid a bevy of burger joints, BBQ hot spots and swanky watering holes, Mellow Mushroom (8227 Oak), a college town favorite joined Oak’s impressive lineup Monday, serving up their legendary za for the first time at 11 a.m.

New Orleans recently added another food truck to its ever-growing fleet of mobile munchies. If you’ve been hanging around Le Bon Temps Roule (4801 Magazine St.) the past couple of weekends, you have inevitably seen Skillet, the new food truck from Jason Vowell and Wylie Whitesides, shelling out late night delicacies on the curb.


Franky and Johnny's Closes Arabella Location


Franky and Johnny’s, which has served up seafood and southern cooking at 321 Arabella since 1942, has packed up its pots and closed it doors.  Although the neighborhood will surely miss its checkered tablecloths, rusty claw machine and baskets of crawfish, they are not closed for good.  According to the restaurant’s website they will be resurfacing in an undisclosed location in the future. 


Tulane Wave Patrol To Bait Bikes


Bike thieves beware--Tulane’s campus is beefing up their cycle security with a new technological terror. TUPD is “baiting" random bikes, giving petty criminals less incentive to use the campus as their playground. The new GPS tracking system will monitor certain unmarked cycles, and there's plenty of warning about the new devices.

Leaders of Tulane and the City offered themselves up to a public forum Wednesday night that was designed to lay out the plan for gameday activities at the Uptown institution's proposed on-campus stadium. NoDef's Ryan Sparks was there to take in all of the hopes and fears.


St. Charles Avenue Fresh Market to Open July 25


That hulking, stately building at the corner of St. Charles and Louisiana Avenues is set to get a Fresh start. After months of renovation, the former funeral home and Borders is set to become the latest installment of the Fresh Market upscale grocery chain. According to the company, the 24,800 sq. ft. store will open at 9 a.m. Wed., July 25.


Car Burglar Gives Tulane Student Rude Awakening


A Tulane student was awoken by a stick being poked in her direction on Saturday morning, and in this case, it wasn't a roomate prank. The woman, who was asleep in her car, woke up and saw the robber manuevering the stick to get into her purse. The burlgar fled on bicycle when she wouldn't open the car.
