Araña Coming in August

Chef Richard Papier Talks New Taqueria on Magazine Street

Local chef Richard Papier has spent time in some big name kitchens across town — Emeril Lagasse, Susan Spicer, and Donald Link to name a few.  But it was dinner at Guillermo Peters’ Coyoacán where Papier found his true culinary calling in Mexican cuisine. Now, he’s taking his appreciation of the ethnic fare to the next level by opening his own restaurant, Araña Taqueria y Cantina on Magazine Street.

Vida's Bistro Brings More Med to Magazine Street

Hummus and pita bread are not new to the local food map, but the owners of Vida's Bistro are updating Mediterranean with a local twist. Located in a renovated house at 4430 Magazine Street, diners enter the bistro through their beautiful covered courtyard facing Magazine. Inside, the restaurant is quaint and minimal with tasteful decorations and a gorgeous wooden bar.

Boil Water Advisory Decision Expected Wed. Afternoon

The rare midsummer berl is heading into its second day. An Uptown boil water advisory that was issued after a water main break created a gusher in Carrollton will be with us at least until Wednesday. Samples taken from the area that experienced low pressure this morning require a 24-hour incubation period, meaning the safety of the water won't be determined until Wednesday afternoon at the earliest.

Former parishioners of St. Henry's Catholic Church (812 General Pershing) are heading into the church for afternoon Mass, then heading out into the streets for a block party to show their devotion to the 155-year-old church.

Magazine Baie-In

Baie Rouge Brings Family-Friendly, Fine Food Uptown

Another restaurant joins the roster of Magazine munchies. Despite a bubble gum pink exterior, Baie Rouge packs some serious talent.  Led by Chef Michael Capiton, former executive chef at Eleven 79 and former sous chef at Galatoire’s, the recently opened resto at 4128 Magazine St. promises gourmet quality without the white linen tablecloths.
