Lower Garden District Murder Suspect Sketched


A mysterious murder shook the Lower Garden District late last week. On Monday, police released a sketch of a suspect in the case. About 1 a.m. Friday, police responded to a call in the 2000 block of Pyrtania St. They found a 33-year-old man dead from a shot to the head, and the house ransacked.

Uptown Power Outage Leaves 1,600 in the Dark (UPDATED)


Despite neither rain nor wind in New Orleans, a power outage struck Uptown Thursday afternoon. According to Entergy New Orleans, approximately 1,600 customers were without electricity at 3:30 p.m.


Uptown's Lyons Center Roars Back to Life

Just in time for the June heat, Uptown has one more pool. The John P. Lyons Memorial Center (624 Louisiana Ave.) is now reopened after under going a $4.9 million dollar renovation project. Today marks the first time that the center’s doors have been open to the public since the Federal Flood of 2005.

The end of spring marks not just the beginning of hurricane season for the Crescent City. With the New Orleans Opera and Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra’s 2012-13 seasons over, and Birdfoot Festival wrapping up last weekend, it would appear the annual summer shortage of classical performances has begun. But if there is a drought coming, it certainly hasn’t arrived yet.


Cabbie in Custody for Uptown Rape


The presence of GPS and security cameras in cabs led detectives to the arrest of a taxi driver who allegedly raped a woman Uptown last week, police said Tuesday. Officers nabbed Yellow Cab driver Sohail Khan, 40, in the 3200 block of D'Hemecourt Street for a sexual assault that occurred last week in the Uptown university area.

Man Missing Uptown


NOPD is asking the public's assistance in locating 29-year-old Yonique Gould. He was last seen Monday morning at an Uptown "residential facility" in the 3000 block of LaSalle St., according to a news release. Gould has a history of bipolar disorder, and is known to become combative with law enforcement. The public should not approach Gould, police said.


Mellow Mushroom Arrives on Oak St.


Oak Street continues its resurgence as yet another new delicious destination calls Carrolton home.  Amid a bevy of burger joints, BBQ hot spots and swanky watering holes, Mellow Mushroom (8227 Oak), a college town favorite joined Oak’s impressive lineup Monday, serving up their legendary za for the first time at 11 a.m.


Tulane Takes to Rave Guardian


Tulane students are signing up in droves for a university-sponsored phone application that functions as an emergency panic button. The campus police department rolled out the system, called Rave Guardian, last month. Tulane has worked with a national campus security company, also called Rave Guardian, since last year to develop the program.
