The presence of GPS and security cameras in cabs led detectives to the arrest of a taxi driver who allegedly raped a woman Uptown last week, police said Tuesday. Officers nabbed Yellow Cab driver Sohail Khan, 40, in the 3200 block of D'Hemecourt Street for a sexual assault that occurred last week in the Uptown university area.

Two emergency alert text messages that went out to Tulane students Wednesday afternoon were a mistake, according to the university. Just before 5 p.m. Tulane students and workers got an emergency message saying there was a shooter on campus. But the message was a mistake sent out during a test of the alert system, according to a message released by the University at 4:56 p.m.

Dr. Francisco Piedrahitas is the president of Icesi University in Colombia. he came to New Orleans to discuss accreditation and the state of business at Tulane, but decided to soak in the sights. Kudos to Piedrahitos, who decided to forgo Bourbon, and indulge in his love of nature by taking a trip to Pecan Grove Trail in Jean Lafitte National Park.
