The Art of Activism

Picolla Tushy's 'Resist This' Series Blends Politics with Performance

Resist This, an ongoing activism-infused affair presented by Picolla Tushy with her troupe The Bluestockings, held its June edition on Saturday (6.10) night at Sidney's Saloon. The intimate night weaved burlesque, comedy, music, poetry, and vaudevillian varieties to raise funds and awareness for the LGBT Community Center, during New Orleans' Pride weekend.

LGBTQ Symposium to Address Future of Health Care

A recent survey released by GLAAD entitled “Accelerating Acceptance 2017” shows that more Americans than ever before support LGBTQ rights and, in fact, identify themselves on a spectrum of sexuality. Despite a nationally changing dialogue on gay rights and locally, New Orleans having the fourth highest percentage LGBT population in the country, the politically embattled discourse on gay rights continues with Louisiana lawmakers.

Indie Lit Fest Spotlights NOLA’s Queer, Trans, POC Poets

2tender4house, a new three-day literary festival, will take place this week with events all over the city. Presented by Tenderness, Yea, and 2fast2house, the inaugural indie fest showcases local queer, trans, and POC poets. The festival’s aim is to highlight New Orleans writers in an effort to build a more inclusive poetry community in the city and beyond.

Girls Rock to Own Beat at Camp

Every summer, young women around the world get a taste of musicianship at specially designated Girls Rock Camps. This year, the inaugural Girls Rock Camp New Orleans will give girls, trans and gender non-conforming youth a creative outlet to build skills and confidence as they learn an instrument, form a band and write a song.
