Spice Wars: Tony Chachere's Sues Big Easy Foods Over Trademark

Updated 9/27, 10 a.m.

Once, Tony Chachere and Big Easy Foods were brothers in spicy sodium-infused Cajun food from a box. Big Easy Foods (based in...Lake Charles) licensed that cute Chachere's likeness for some of its food products. But, last year, the two parted ways, and it's been anything but mild since then. In a lawsuit filed today, Chachere's is accusing Big Easy of infringing on their trademark, and undercutting their business, reports Eater NOLA.

There Can Be Only One Wolfpack

In college sports, there are a handful of huskies, a smattering of wildcats and more than a few varieties of lions. But for North Carolina State, two wolfpack is a crowd. From atop their throne on Tobacco Road, NC State, of the NCAA, has decided to open a trademark battle with our very own Loyola University, of the NAIA (what's that?) over the teams' shared, undeniably fierce nickname. According to the Loyola Maroon, NC State trademarked the Wolfpack name in 1983, making them feel like they're "required" to challenge other users for exclusive use. Sounds like they're just gettin' uppity! The universities are still in talks. As is the case with all legal battles, we're hoping for a mascot slam dunk contest will be the ultimate arbiter. If that doesn't work, maybe Loyola can name themselves after hthe group of whatever panther-like menaces have been lurking around the area lately.
