NoDef's Annual Carnival Playlist

Fat Tuesday is upon us! The hours are slipping away before New Orleanians must once again pack their favorite Carnival albums and wait a year. If you don't feel like strolling down Bourbon St. in the interim, NoDef has put together a playlist for you with all the classics from Dr. John and Professor Longhair to Al "Carnival Time" Johnson. Very few cities have music for every season, and none have better music in any season than New Orleans.

Click through to listen to our annual playlist.

Preservation Hall Players in the Mix on Tom Waits' 'Hell Broke Luce' (VIDEO)

Tom Waits takes the yolk of a house - and, by symbolic turn, the country - upon his shoulders in an abrasive video for his new song "Hell Broke Luce." While the video's striking imagery makes it hard to look away, a gaze at the personnel reveals that along with the Rolling Stones' Keith Richards and the Red Hot Chili Peppers' Flea, Preservation Hall sousaphonist Ben Jaffe and (in this case) tenor saxophonist Clint Maedgen were among the song's players.
