Today's Events: 5/9/11 May 9, the fateful day that country singer Jimmie Davis was elected governor of Louisiana (1944). Davis grew up in Jackson Parish, received a bachelor’s in history from Louisiana College, and a masters from LSU. Then, Jimmie went on to do what any good Louisiana boy does: he made music. Most known for the official state song ‘You Are My Sunshine’, Davis has been inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, the Country Music Hall of Fame, and the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame.
