Great Exclamations: !!! (Chk Chk Chk) Announces Marigny Show

Dance-punk band !!! (known audibly as Chk Chk Chk) is celebrating legal drinking status, as the critically acclaimed band marks its 21st year on the music scene with an international summer/fall tour. On Friday (6.23), the New York-based crew announced that they will drop by NOLA for a show along St. Claude Ave. this fall.  


Bicyclist Killed at St. Claude and Elysian Fields

NOPD is on the scene of a fatal crash in the Marigny. A male bicyclist was killed in an accident near the corner of St. Claude Ave. and Elysian Fields Ave., officer Garry Flot said.

Crime Bits: Canine Nabs St. Claude Robber, N.O. East Murder

A NOPD canine unit sniffed out an armed robbery suspect under a house after the man robbed a store on St. Claude Ave. Tuesday, police said. Jeremy Youngblood, 21, was arrested in the 4200 block of Urquhart St. after fleeing police.

NOPD Provides Pics of Bywater Robbers

NOPD is looking for a pair of stick-up suspects in connection with a Thursday night robbery at a Bywater store. The two men, both of whom had guns, walked into the Family Dollar in the 3100 block of St. Claude Ave. after 9 p.m.

Today, St. Claude Ave. is celebrating a host of educational nonprofit orgs, and a new pocket park. Plus, Alabama garage mod band St. Paul and the Broken Bones are at One Eyed Jacks, and Big Freedia and Katey Red are popping for charity on St. Claude. On this day in 1836, New Orleans was divided into three “cities” including the Vieux Carre. Now, more to do this Saturday.

Fatal Car Crashes on St. Claude, I-10

A man was killed in a car crash early Tuesday morning near the corner of St. Claude Ave. and Poland Ave., according to NOPD. The accident occurred about 12:50 a.m., police said. The man, who was not identified, was driving a Chrysler 300 westbound on St. Claude Ave., when the car collided with a Ford Taurs driving north on Poland Ave.

New Orlenians know how to make White Linen Night dirty, but on Saturday night the art strollin' get downright filthy.  Showcasing art beyond Esplanade, Filthy Linen Night lights up Second Saturday from Frenchmen to St. Claude in celebration of St. Claude’s newly reopened Night Market.   

Mandeville Man Killed in Marigny Hit-and-Run

A man from the North Shore was killed early Friday morning in a hit-and-run accident in the Marigny, according to NOPD. The 24-year-old Mandeville man, whose name was not released, was crossing the street at about 4:25 a.m. in the 2400 block of St. Claude Ave., when he was hit by a car, police said.

Shadowbox Theatre Turns 3 with Friday Night Variety

With the Saenger’s marquee slated to glow again this fall and the smaller venue, The Shadowbox on St. Claude, turning three years old, spring is in the air for New Orleans theatre, too. The latter theatre invites the community to celebrate its anniversary with a variety show fundraiser and after party this Friday, April 5 at 8pm at the theatre under the Marquer Drugs sign at 2400 St. Claude Ave.

In case you haven’t heard, the fantastic after-school tutoring and youth writing workshop organization extraordinaire Big Class has moved its operations into the first floor of the Press Street HQ (3718 St. Claude Ave.). Inspired by the 826 writing centers run across the country by McSweeney’s, Big Class offers a fun and welcoming environment for schoolchildren ages 6 – 18 to get help with their homework and—more importantly—take part in workshops and activities that spur the imagination and encourage young writers to hone their talents.
