NBA Showdown

Cavs & Warriors Rubber Match to Begin Tonight

The NBA finals return tonight (6.1) on ABC, pitting the Golden State Warriors against the Cleveland Cavaliers for the third straight season in a matchup only the most degenerate and self-loathing of Vegas gambling addicts dared to bet against before the season began. 82 regular season games and a playoff system that seems to go on forever has led us to this, exactly what everyone assumed would happen the day after the NBA Finals ended last year in a historic, down 3 games to 1 comeback by the Cavs, aided by a superhuman effort from Lebron James.

Friends & Neighbors: Brees & Cooper (Video)

On the first Sunday of the NFL’s 2015 season, Eli lost and Peyton won. A third Manning (who was not Archie) also made an appearance. The Fox network gave Cooper Manning his own show. Drew Brees was the first guest on the weekend debut of “The Cooper Manning Hour.”

Butt of the Joke: Jesters Fall to Atlanta, 0-1

By Andrew Mullins, III

The Jesters lost a key game in their hunt for a playoff spot 0-1 to the Atlanta Silverbacks Reserves. The loss sends the Jesters into 5th place with five points, just two points above bottom dweller Knoxville. A fourth-place spot secures a trip to the Southeast playoffs. With three division games left, New Orleans is currently five points behind fourth-place Georgia Revolution with the Revs set to visit Pan American Stadium this Saturday.

Drolldums: Jesters and Knoxville Draw in the Heat

By Andrew Mullins, III

The New Orleans Jesters grinded out a 1-1 draw against the Knoxville Force Saturday night in the slimy humidity at Pan American Stadium. The Jesters (1-3-2) gained a crucial point in the quest for a spot in the NPSL Southeast division top four and a trip to the playoffs. During the next week, the Jesters play two games for a chance to solidify a playoff ticket with games against the Peach State duo: the Georgia Revolution and the Atlanta Silverbacks Reserve Team.

Not Funny: Jesters Lose 0-4 to Chattanooga FC

By Andrew Mullins III

Chattanooga FC demolished the New Orleans Jesters 4-0 in front of a visibly disappointed home crowd at Pan American Stadium Saturday night. The loss starts a 5 game home streak for the Jesters who need to use the extended stay in City Park to dig themselves out of a 4th place hole.

Pelicans See the Special Man

I say, I say, I say, Frankie & Johnny’s days as a furniture powerhouse have passed, but their ad campaign lives on. In local lore, the Special Man holds a hallowed position along with the likes of Morgus and Mr. Bingle. The ads even gained a national following when NOLAphile Conan O’Brien began featuring them in running jokes. Now, the Pelicans are getting in on the game.

Brow Now: Anthony Davis to the All-Star Game

The Pelicans may be struggling, but Anthony Davis has emerged as a star. And, as of Thursday (1.22), he has emerged as an All-Star. According to the League Davis been named a starter on the NBA Western Conference All-Star team after earning the most votes of all frontcourt players in the conference.

High Brow: Davis in Lead With One Day Remaining for All Star Voting

Anthony Davis’ injured toe kept him out of the Sunday (1.18) afternoon Pelicans game. But, with one day remaining, the Brow is still on the NBA All Star ballot and faring well. One day of voting remains.

FQ's M.R.B. Shows the Joy of Sports Bars & the Pain of Sports

Gentle reader, thanks be to God that football season is finally over. Anyone who thought the Saints were improved without Sproles stands now properly chastised. But for me, my friends, there yet remained the final, cruel technicality of a Detroit Lions playoff game, and no better bar exists for watching football in this city than M.R.B. on St. Phillip in the French Quarter.
