Class Got Brass Winners (PHOTOS) Photos by Ryan Hodgson-Rigsbee Early Sunday afternoon about a dozen brass bands representing local middle and high schools assembled within sight of the statue of Satchmo's statue in Armstrong Park to compete in the Jazz & Heritage Foundation's Class Got Brass contest. O. Perry Walker High School took top honors, winning $10k worth of instruments for five minutes' worth of showtime, a rate that would impress even Kermit Ruffins. Tonight in the Marigny: Solstice Second Line with the Bayou Steppers In addition to the Second Line Show Down on Saturday at Tipitina's, the Sunday-heavy parade calendar is throwing the rest of the wek some more lagniappe tonight in the Marigny. The Bayou Steppers Social Aide and Pleasure Club are set to roll out from Sound Cafe (2700 Chartres Street) at 6 p.m. for a Summer Solstice Second Line. Click through for the full route and details. Tipitina's Hosts Friday Night Blowout for Steve Gleason It may not have a fancy title like Gleason Gras, but Tipitina's own benefit for Steve Gleason, the former Saint who is battling ALS, is shaping up to be a huge party of its own. Tomorrow night, the legendary Uptown club will pack them in up to the bottom of Professor Longhair's chin to raise money for the Gleason Family Trust, which supports Steve and Michel Gleason directly as he undergoes treatment and lives daily with the rapidly debilitating disease.
