Sunday Second Line Celebrates 10th Anniversary for Keep-N-It-Real

Lent is here, but parades are year round in New Orleans. Sunday second lines began again yesterday in the Sixth and Seventh Wards, with the Keep-N-It-Real Social Aide and Pleasure Club celebrating their tenth anniversary. Click through for photos.

There’s a pair of second lines in Algiers and Treme, a New Orleans Style Christmas Concert in St. Louis Cathedral, and a costume contest for pets kicking off in the Warehouse District.  On this day in 1769, officials met for the first time in the Cabildo. Now, more ways to kick off Christmas NOLA style.

Bayou Boogaloo celebrates its last day of zero-waste fun on Bayou St. John, second lines are going down from Mid City to Central City, Clybourne Park is playing at the Shadowbox, and comedian Amy Schumer is at House of Blues. On this day in 1997, Gospel vocalist Nolan Washington, originally of the Zion Harmonizers, passed away at age 65. Now, more to do this Sunday.
