The anguish wrought by the Mother's Day shooting will weigh heavy on New Orleans as Social Aide and Pleasure Clubs step out for a second line for the first time since the tragedy. But as the Mayor said "We won't bow down," so, the the Unbreakable Men and the Divine Ladies are set to hit the Central City streets on Sunday in characteristic style. On Thursday, Mayor Mitch called on New Orleans to say "Enough is enough" to violence in the wake of Sunday's horrific Mother's Day second line shooting. But we know that for locals, it's also about what we do in response to tough times that counts. As ever, citizens aren't letting the violence stop them from rolling up their sleeves and dancing in the streets at three events over the next few weeks.

Akein Scott, the suspect who allegedly fired into a 7th Ward second line parade on Mother's Day, was arrested Wednesday night, according to NOPD. The 19-year-old was picked up in the Little Woods neighborhood, said officer Garry Flot, a police spokesman.

People United for Armstrong Park is honoring one of their founding members in a second line this afternoon. Patricia “Pat” Evans passed away on May 2, at 81 years old. Evans was beloved for her work as a women’s rights activist in the 1970’s and 1980’s, and she led the community through her work with PUfAP, the Historic Faubourg Treme Association, and many other organizations geared towards bettering New Orleans.

New Orleans traditions don't limit themselves by banks of the river. Tomorrow, the East and West Bank will demonstrate why New Orleans culture thrives with a second line in Treme, and the West Bank Mardi Gras Indians' version of Super Sunday.

French Quarter Fest is clogging the streets downtown, but all the Single Ladies and Men are set to prance on the pavement Uptown on Sunday for a second line. Whether you've been to a parade before or not, The Single Ladies and Men Social Aide and Pleasure Club and Queen Helena Thomas are set to take you on "Our First Date" through the streets of Central City, beginning at 1 p.m. Click through for the full route:

The Stooges Brass Band found a new, but familiar, home for their Thursday night show—the Rock Bottom Lounge (3801 Tchoupitoulas St.). Beginning this Thursday, March 28, the band will return to the Tchoup spot for their weekly residency, giving second liners and music loving locals alike something to step out about.

The Italian American marchers aren't the only ones hitting the streets this weekend. From Audbon Park to Bayou St. John, a pair of parades are set to roll out the good times. In the meantime, marchers will also be helping to say "f*ck cancer," and keep it real.
