New Orleans Schools On Lockdown Following Gentilly Shooting

The NOPD is investigating a shooting that occurred early Thursday afternoon (3.23) on the 5000 block of Louisa Street. Initial reports on scene show a male victim of homicide, at around 1:48PM. 

Gentilly Elementary School on Lockdown After Reports of Armed Suspects Inside

Updated 6:10 p.m.

Medard Nelson Elementary School in Gentilly was put on lockdown after gunfire was reported in the vicinity of the school this afternoon as parents were arriving to pick up their children from school. The school is located 3121 St. Bernard Ave. NOPD Chief Ronal Serpas said there are a total of four suspects in the incident. Serpas said police received a call around 2:45 p.m. about four suspicious people near the railroad tracks behind the school. Click through for video of Serpas.
