LSU students will be soon be heading back to campus, but they will not be heading back to the future. The university announced a temporary ban on so-called “hoverboards” and asked returning students to leave them at home.

Rule number one of fireworks is “Don’t blow your fingers off like a certain NFL player.” The second standard is that your pets do not like pyrotechnic displays. Dogs and cats have far better hearing than humans and those airborne booms do not go over well with them. The Louisiana Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (L-SPCA) has issued a reminder that dogs are frightened by fireworks and often run away on the Fourth as well as some pointers to keep Rex happy.

Inevitably, holiday merry making sometimes devolves into a mess making. Beyond the potential for a holiday hangover, Christmas catastrophes can sometimes be serious, even deadly. So, the New Orleans Fire Deaprtment (NOFD) once again issued their annual list of holiday safety tips.

It's the Fourth of July which means lots of fire. It's also time for the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) to weigh in with their annaul reminders about safety. First and foremost, NOLA's Bravest urge citizens to leave the pyrotechnics to the pros. The guys with the hoses also remind locals that reckless grilling can sometimes end in disaster especially after a few frosties.

Dan Favre can’t find time to catch his breath since Bike Easy hired him as their new Executive Director. In his first month, Favre and Bike Easy kicked off their membership drive, oversaw a waterlogged Bike To Work Week, and continued their advocacy work with programs such as the Safe Routes To School program. 


NOPD: "Tune your shopping machine" & Other Cyber Safety Tips


The holiday season means lots of warnings. There is danger mixed in with merry-making. The Fire Department warned us about turkey fryer accidents and the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) provided pointers about Black Friday crime. Now, the NOPD are turning in an encore in the form of eleven tips about cyber-shopping.


NOPD Shop Black Friday Safety Tips


After the turkey, football, and napping, the shopping begins for many. Whether they are looking to buy themselves a new television on the cheap or stock up on gifts for family and friends, tens of thousands will be shopping this weekend. However, NOPD say that Black Friday is also a busy day for criminals. Police are offering up a few tips on staying safe.


Marigny Bicyclist Burgled, Cops Blame Car


Police are searching for a four doored blue sedan, after a bicylist was robbed in the Marigny. The incident occurred on the Saturday, June 7 around 10:30 p.m. and while the victim escaped without serious injury, NOPD are pursuing several suspects for 27/65P (Purse Snatching) and a 67B (Theft Bicycle).


NOFD Issues Annual Warnings


Pressers and releases are the domain of the Mayor's office and NOPD's Remi Braden most days of the year. However, on a few special days, the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) steps forward into the limelight.
