Green Light for NOPD Commander Who Double-Dipped With Details


Just as the holiday weekend grills were lighting up, Edwin Hosli's game of red light-green light appeared to come to an end on Friday. The New Orleans Police Department Commander who came under fire for his abuse of the department's paid detail system escaped criminal scrutiny was reinstated by the Department, according to a NOPD statement. In 2011, controversy swirled around Hosli, the former commander of the 8th District (French Quarter, CBD, Marigny), when he was discovered to have formed an independent business that collected money from the NOPD to process red-light camera tickets.


Akein Scott's Brother, 4 More Arrested in Connection with Mother's Day Shooting (UPDATED)


Akein Scott's brother was also arrested in Sunday's Mother's Day second line shooting, according to police. Speaking at a news conference where the shooting took place at the corner of N. Villere St. and Frenchmen St. in the 7th Ward, NOPD Chief Ronal Serpas said Sean Scott, 24, is also believed to have participated in the shooting. The two Scott brothers are believed to be involved in the Frenchmen and Derbigny Boys gang, Serpas said.


Authorities Gang Up on 110ers, Indict 15


Authorities returned an indictment against New Orleans gang members that they called the largest and most sweeping in the city's history, District Attorney Leon Cannizzarro said this morning. The 51-count indictment was filed yesterday against 15 members of the 110ers gang, which included those responsible for the murder of 5-year-old Briana Allen at a Central City birthday party in May, 2012, Cannizzaro said.


City Council Grills Troopers on Teen Mardi Gras Skirmish


Local officials are taking troopers to task tonight for their handling of a controversial Mardi Gras skirmish. Mayor Mitch and NOPD Superintendent Serpas slammed State Police after they released the findings of their internal investigation, in which they absolved their nine plainclothes officers of wrongdoing for approaching, handling, and sitting upon two unarmed black teenagers.

The arrest of a teen prostitute lead to the capture of her 27-year-old pimp, and the discovery of around $30,000 worth of marijuana, New Orleans police announced Thursday.


Guilty Plea in LSU Bomb Threat, Boston Tragedy Brings Local Calls for Vigilance


Yesterday, William Bouvay Jr. pled guilty to calling in a bomb threat on the LSU campus in September 2012.  Still awaiting a sentence, Bouvay faces up to 28 years in prison.  Bouvay’s verdict comes just on the heels of yesterday’s devastating explosions in Boston, prompting the New Orleans Division of the FBI to address bomb and shooter concerns in Louisiana.  


Jacoby Jones, Ravens Give NOPD Pair of Harleys for Super Bowl Service


A a hometown boy whose mother’s kitchen is his favorite place to eat, Jacoby Jones held true to his roots wih an act of gratitude today. On behalf of the Baltimore Ravens, the wide receiver gave NOPD the gift of two 2013 Harley Davidson FLHP motorcycles.


Man Booked for Beating of Bonck, Buring Body in St. Bernard


New Orleans police arrested a suspect who allegedly killed a New Orleans East man, then buried his body in St. Bernard Parish. Michael Vicknair, 35, allegedly bludgeoned Jeffrey Bonck Sr., 53, to death, officials said. Vicknair then dug a shallow grave, and buried Bonck in a wooded area of St. Bernard Parish.


Family of Man Killed by Police Files Civil Rights Lawsuit Against NOPD


The family of a man killed by New Orleans Police Department officers last year following a Mid-City traffic stop filed a civil rights lawsuit in federal court this week. Earl Sipp III and Earl Sipp Jr. are claiming unspecified damages for the the death of 20-year-old Justin Sipp, who was shot early on the morning of March 1, 2012, at the corner of N. Bernadotte St. and Toulouse St.


All 3 Suspects in Garden District Rape Arrested


The teenagers who kidnapped, robbed, and sexually assaulted a woman in the Garden District on Monday are in custody, according to NOPD. After one 15-year-old boy confessed Thursday morning to his part in the brutal attack, police were able to secure arrest warrants for the other two suspects. One of the other two is a 16-year-old boy, and the other is 18-year-old Christopher Davis.
