Uplifting: Trailer Released for Katrina-USCG Doc


The federal government offered little help to New Orleans is the days following Katrina’s levee breach. However, the U.S. Coast Guard proved the exception to the rule, hoisting over 33,000 locals to safety. Filmmaker Kaitlin Smith just released the trailer for her film, Paratus 14:50 which chronicles the USCG’s efforts in the fall of 2005.


Six Dogs Saved During Two Alarm Fire


On Sunday (10.5), the New Orleans Fire Department provided a feel good story in Algiers. Fire in a family’s home resulted in a two alarm response. NOFD managed to put out the inferno and save six dogs in the process.


Children Rescued from Lake Pontchartrain, Father in Hospital


A father who jumped in Lake Pontchartrain to rescue his children nearly drowned. About 11 a.m., the 64-year-old man's two children were playing on the steps near 1800 Lakeshore Dr., when one of the children fell in.


WhirlyBird Wonder


You may have noticed post Katrina quantities of helicopters flying out of Belle Chase this morning. Those choppers were on a rescue mission to a  Transocean owned oil rig whihc exploded out in the Gulf this morning. At last count, seven were still missing. However, MSNBC has great footage of the rescue.
