As New Orleans approaches Christmas, holiday parties continue to pop up at Lee Circle and House of Blues. Local rapper Dee-1 is ending his tour tonight at The Republic. Before there was a midnight mass in Jackson Square, St. Louis Cathedral was dedicated on this date in 1794. Now, more to do this Monday.

It’s nearly the weekend and New Orleans knows it.  This Thursday, get a lesson in twerking from Big Freedia herself.  Spend the afternoon with the Stooges Brass Band and Mia Borders in Congo Square.  Robin Barnes, Barry Stephenson’s Pocket, Kermit and the Soul Rebels also perform across the city.  On this day in 1934, trumpeter and Olympia Brass Band leader, Milton Batiste Jr., was born.

Today, head to the Treme set sale and get some items from the show, sip on beer from all over the world, see Kendrick Lamar at Buku, and stay hungry for the food truck soiree at Rusty Nail. Happy birthday to R&B legend and Kenner native Lloyd Price, who makes 80 years old today. Now, more to do this Saturday.

Today in New Orleans 11.01.12

It’s All Saints Day, and there’s a lot to do to celebrate in the Big Easy. Enjoy some free jazz in the park, get down on Canal, or get political with Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson. A big Who Dat Happy Birthday to the New Orleans Saints. They became the 16th NFL football team on November 1, 1966.

Today's Events: 4/7/11

The Defender Picks (a gauche) lay down our list of suggestions each jour de la semaine, but here's our daily ‘pick of the litter,’ spotlighting a few of the day's offerings with some added detail.

Thursdays are for music, especially when it’s the first day of French Quarter Fest, and the first time that FQF starts on a Thursday. Full circle! From 3 p.m. - 7 p.m., you best be hopping between Woldenburg Park, Harrah’s, the aquarium, and Jackson Square to catch the Spirit of New Orleans (Brass Band) and all the Zydeco(sis) your little heart desires.
