Deals Abound at New Orleans Dining Destinations During Augustby Shay Sokol August brings the heat and as a result fewer tourists to New Orleans. But now locals have a chance to go to the spots that are usually crowded with out-of-towners - and eat there for chepaer. Across the Crescent City, 57 restaurants will offer prix-fixe menus throughout this wet blanket of a month as part of the eighth annual COOLinary Restaurant Month. Eateries ranging from Grand Dames to diners will offer 2- to 3-course lunches for $20 or less, and 3-course dinners for $35 or less. The New Orleans Convention and Visitors Bureau sponsors the month-long event, which also includes discounted cocktails. Save the Picayune Cocktails Coming to 5 New Orleans MenusNothing goes together quite like newspaperpeople and drinking, and this isn't lost on Times-Picayune Citizens' Group member Ralph Brennan. Starting tomorrow, all of the restaraunteur's locations will be serving Save the Picayune cocktails. Playing off The Times-Picayune staff's current plight, the special line of drinks will be uniquely named for this dire hour for the employees of this moribund media outlet, and some of the proceeds will help out Da Paper's soon-to-be-"reduced" staff. Po-Boy Fest Hands Out AwardsThe long lines and VIP seating may have cut into Oak Street Po-Boy Fest's usual hype between french bread. But as Dead Huey Long said, "Just because every man is a king doesn’t mean y’all get to be VIPs, too." So it was that the throngs returned to the Carrollton carnival. A week later, the time has come to crown some of the fest's royalty. Today' Po-Boy Fest unveiled their award winners. Taking home top honors for "Best of Fest" was Louisiana-based franchise WOW Wingery, for their Shanghai Shrimp Po-Boy. Guess it's the year of local chains. Click through for the rest of the winners. |
